Founding, Lasting Legacy, Current Critical Need
In 1994 a dedicated group from around the country, all parents of children with deaf-blindness, along with professionals from the Helen Keller National Center, the Hilton/Perkins Program of Perkins School for the Blind, and the National Center on Deaf-Blindness (then known as NTAC), formed the National Family Association for Deaf-Blind (NFADB) to support and advocate for families with individuals who are deaf-blind.
25 years later, NFADB is the only independent, national, family-led organization whose mission is to inform, empower and support families with individuals who are deaf-blind, regardless of age, cause or cognitive ability. The founders’ legacy is a united association of families, individuals, professionals, organizations and agencies from Puerto Rico to California, Michigan to Texas. We are together… We are not alone… Our voices are heard.
The professional organizations the founders worked with still provide generous technical and in-kind support. But they can no longer provide the annual financial support of those early years. NFADB operates on a small budget and your support will have a significant impact on our volunteer-led efforts:
Mary Gyori, Development Committee Chair
NFADB is a 501(c)(3) organization and your donation is tax deductible to the full extent of the law
